Monday's The Last Day To Register For May's Primary

The registration deadline for the May 8 primary is Monday at 9 pm.

On the partisan ballots, there are contests for governor and US Senate as well as legislative seats. For non-partisan voters, there’s a statewide constitutional amendment to change the way Congressional boundaries are drawn.

“I think there will be more voter interest because at the top of the ballot there are contested races for Republicans and Democrats who are interested in the governor’s race,” said Mike West of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. He said they are expecting higher than usual turnout for a midterm election.

“What’s normal is 20 percent but we may, and we hope, it’s higher because people seem to be very interested in politics these days and there’s a lot of passion these days and we hope it translates to people taking part in the democracy,” West said.

Registration can be done in person at schools and libraries throughout the county or online at the Ohio Secretary of State’s website.

Early voting starts Tuesday, April 10.
