If you have a child of school age, then you already are aware of the substantial amount of testing that is required at nearly every level of a student's education. Testing is a hot-button topic for many parents, teachers and administrators alike, not to mention the students. The chief complaint is that Ohio's students are tested too much and as a result spend too much of their classroom time on test preparation and test-taking an not enough on broader learning. State Schools Superintendent Paolo DeMaria has recommended to the state school board that tests be reduced in Ohio's schools after getting recommendations from a 24-member advisory panel of education experts he formed. That panel's recommendations were even more aggressive than the superintendent's proposals.
